Spirit and Truth: Frankfort 9/28/14
Call to Worship
We begin each week with a scripture reading known as the Call to Worship. This serves as a reminder that all true worship begins with God –He is the one who initiates this divine conversation with His people and we respond.
Scripture Reading: Psalm 96:1-4
Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.
Song: “How Great Thou Art” by Stuart Wesley Keene Hine
Welcome and Prayer
Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love, according to Your abundant mercy blot out our transgressions; wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, cleanse us from our sin. For we are well aware of our transgressions, our sins are constantly in mind. Against You, You alone, we have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight. God, create in us a clean heart, renew a right spirit within us. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, uphold us with a willing spirit. Lord, open our lips, and our mouths will declare Your praise. Amen.
Song: “O My Soul Arise” by Eric McAllister and Charles Wesley
Song: “Holy Is Our God” by Jon Neufeld and Tim Neufeld
The Preaching of God’s Word
Scripture Reading: Romans 7:13-25
Sermon: Defeated by What I Hate; Romans 7:13-25
Worship through Response
After the sermon, we respond in a number of ways –through singing, prayer, the Offering, and the Lord’s Supper.
The Offering: As followers of Christ and as members of The Point Community Church, we joyfully participate in giving a portion of our income in a regular sacrificial way.
The Lord’s Supper: As a church, sharing the Lord’s Supper is a significant event where believers gratefully acknowledge the death of Christ as the fully payment for our sin.
Song: “Man of Sorrows” by Matt Crocker and Brooke Ligertwood
Song: “Once For All” by Philip Paul Bliss and Zachary Hicks
Announcements and Prayer
Song: “Made Alive” by Zach Bolen and Brian Eichelberger
Every week before we leave, we receive a benediction, or blessing, from God’s Word. Just as the worship gathering begins with God’s call, it ends with God’s promise of his blessing over us as we leave to go and be the church.
Benediction and Sending: 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
Go and be the church!
