A Generous Christmas
As we begin this Advent Season, I want to introduce our Christmas sermon series and year-end giving initiative, which we are calling “A GENEROUS Christmas”.
We are celebrating this Christmas as a church family by intentionally being GENEROUS: Generous with our time, money and love. What greater way to celebrate the birth of our Savior than by reaching out beyond our church to truly make a difference!
One of the components of “A Generous Christmas” will be a year-end special offering. This offering will go toward meeting needs in and out of our body. We are identifying needs within our body, in our community and in our world. And during the Christmas season we will be meeting those needs by being generous to the glory of God because we want to demonstrate to the world that God is generous. We will be announcing the details about how the offering will be used in the coming days.
Our sermons, community group teachings and study material will be focused on the tenets of the Advent Conspiracy as in years past: Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More and Love All. We are excited about HOW we are going to do these things.
Why is this important? Because our worship of Christ is especially threatened, even more so at Christmas. Spending money, wanting things, and spending our time in the chaos of our consumer-culture are just some of the ways that we truly miss the meaning of Christmas. Incredibly, as Christians, our worship of Christ is threatened by another empire.
We must resist the empire of consumption as we live in the narrative of the Biblical account of the birth of Christ, proclaiming to the world that we serve a different King whose Kingdom is one of giving ourselves to others and not hoarding for ourselves.
Let’s teach our children, each other and our world that God is giving.
So join us and let’s make this Christmas different by worshipping fully, spending less, giving more and loving all.
