We are committed to planting Gospel-centered, missional communities here in Central Kentucky and beyond. We are firmly convinced that planting new churches and revitalizing declining churches is a proven and effective strategy for living out the Great Commission.
The Point is actively involved with Acts 29, a network of churches from around the nation and world whose goal is to help qualified leaders called by God to plant new churches and replant declining churches. Pastors who comprise the network of Acts 29 help assess the fitness of church leaders to plant or replant a church. If the planter is a good fit with the network they assist with friendship, coaching, and resources that will help pastors successfully build the Kingdom of God in their community.
We believe the local church is the hope of the world. This drives us to not only build The Point but help support missional churches in Kentucky and beyond. As our church grows, we are committed to partnering with Acts 29 to plant healthy, Gospel-centered missional churches. We offer assessment, coaching, and support to new and existing church plants and church planters.
In Kentucky… We will plant new churches and we will assist in revitalizing declining churches. There is a tremendous need for missional communities in Central Kentucky and beyond. We believe part of our unique calling as a church is to partner with other churches in meeting that need. We love the Bluegrass, and we are committed to seeing God glorified through churches in Central Kentucky. We are also committed to planting churches throughout North America and the world through our partnerships with the Acts 29 Network and the North American Mission Board.
Currently…
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
- In 2010, we will plant Redemption Hill Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our Church Planting Resident, Jason Hampton, has returned to his hometown of Indianapolis and, along with his core team, plant Redemption Hill. This is especially exciting for us as our first actual church plant.
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
- Ernie & Lisa Banks and Jack & Brittany Cheadle are part of our Church Planting Residency Program. Ernie and Jack will be in training here for the next several months as they prepare to plant Eden Village Church in Savannah Georgia. Pray for Ernie, Jack and their families during this very important season of their lives.
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
- We are also prayerfully planning for the launch of a TPCC campus as missional Gospel-centered community in Lexington. Downtown Lexington is just minutes away from our campus, and we sense God’s call to have a strong presence in downtown, near the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University campuses. Lexington is considered as one of the most the influential cities in America by Forbes Magazine, and one of the most creative cities in America by the Creative Cities Summit, and is the cultural and educational center of our region.

“The vigorous, continual planting of new congregations is the single most crucial strategy for 1) the numerical growth of the Body of Christ in any city, and 2) the continual corporate renewal and revival of the existing churches in a city. Nothing else-not crusades, outreach programs, para-church ministries, growing mega-churches, congregational consulting, nor church renewal processes-will have the consistent impact of dynamic, extensive church planting.” - Dr. Tim Keller in Why Plant Churches?
Church Planting Initiatives (CPI) is our focused and intentional effort to be a church planting church. Church planting is a key strategy of The Point Community Church.
Through church planting we aim not just to plant a church, but to plant churches which are committed to our Core Values of Teaching Truth, Worshipping Jesus, Living in Community, and Missional Living which are expressed through members and extended to the community.
Our church planting vision is to plant new churches led by a plurality of male elders who share our mission and vision, who gladly embrace our statement of faith, and who are committed to identifying with being evangelical, reformed and missional.
Through CPI, we partner with, train, encourage, support and assist qualified church planters who share our vision, mission and message.
Ways to connect with other church planters through The Point for networking and training:
- Monthly Lunch and Roundtable for Church Planters: if you are interested in joining us for our next free lunch and roundtable discussion please email cpi@thepointcommunity.net or call 502.352.2911.
- Quarterly Meetings with regional Acts 29 Network churches.
Church Planting Residency Program
The CPRP is part of The Point’s effort to raise up church planters and send them out to the mission field as a called, competent and qualified church planter.
Church Planting Initiatives and the Church Planting Residency Program is our training and preparation process for church planters. The program is being/has been designed for qualified church planters to complete prior to full-time church planting work. The program’s goal is to instill in the planter the biblical convictions of The Point Community Church, and to envision a new expression of those biblical convictions in the context of a new church.
The Church Planting Residency is a specialized training track focused on developing an appropriately gifted and qualified man into a lead church planter. Success in this leadership development endeavor requires:
- Identifying the core competencies that are crucial to successful church plant leadership
- Assessing the resident’s current capacity in these areas
- Implementing an customized action plan tailored to the specific needs of the resident
Acts 29 Network
The Point has partnered with the Acts 29 Church Planting Network. Acts 29 helps potential church planters, assess God’s call on their life, and help them in responding to God’s call on their life with training, funding, and partnership with other churches across the country and around the world. Acts 29 has contributed to the successful planting of over 100 churches in 8 nations. Acts 29 has a vision to plant over 1,000 churches. To learn more, please visit http://www.act29network.org. Acts 29 is not a denomination, but a network of church planting churches.
North American Mission Board
Another way we are active in church planting is through our relationship with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). NAMB is an active church planting organization and we give funding through the Cooperative Program in order to assist with and partner in the planting of new churches in Kentucky through the Ky Baptist Convention and across the nation and globe.
Church Planters Welcome!
We often have church planters in our worship services who want to get a backstage look at what happens on a typical Sunday…and we LOVE IT!!!
If you and your team want to drop in for a Sunday worship experience we would love to have you as our personal guests. However, if you would like access to our staff, children’s area, one on one time with our lead volunteers, etc., we simply ask that you let us know you are coming. We want your time with us to be worthwhile for you and your team.
If you would like to join us for a Sunday morning service simply send an e-mail to cpi@thepointcommunity.net and let us know when you are coming to town.
In addition to joining us on Sunday mornings, we also host a monthly lunch for church planters and a quarterly gathering of church planters for training, encourgement and networking. We by no means have it all together, but we certainly believe in church planting and we LOVE church planters.
